The Master Builders Association created the Built Green program in partnership with King County and Snohomish Counties to provide consumers with an easy-to-understand rating system for identifying projects built using sustainable and ecological materials and practices.
We currently work with over 200 builders who have certified over 27,000 units in King and Snohomish Counties. Current sponsors include King County, Snohomish County and Puget Sound Energy. The program is promoted through government incentive programs (e.g. Seattle Priority Green), advertising in print and on the web, on displays (at the King County offices, bi-annual Seattle Home Shows), and at events such as the annual Built Green Conference (which drew a record 1000 attendees in 2008!).
Built Green was launched in 1999 and is now the second largest green home building program in the country.
- Membership has grown from four member companies in 2000 to over 450 member companies today.
- Over 27,000 households live in a Built Green certified home.
- In a 2013 survey of Built Green homeowners, 89 percent of respondents said they were "Happy" or "Very Happy" with the comfort of their Built Green certified home.
- In the same study we learned that homeowners associate Built Green with energy efficiency, a greener life style, water savings, and better indoor air quality.
