Membership Meeting of Built Green – The first ever meeting of our member companies will be held on Thursday, Nov 6, at the MBA Banquet Room from 6 – 8 pm. Please put it on your calendars now so you can stop by and give us your feedback on the program and what you’d like to see come out of it!

Seattle Homeshow 2
– Please stop by the Built Green booth #1603 from October 2 – 5 in the Seattle Exhibition Center. Volunteers to staff the booth are still welcome! Jorve Roofing is the sponsor of our large 20’ x 40’ space, and Skyline Displays is the sponsor of the structure of our exhibit. Members companies such as Stafford Homes, Quadrant Homes, O’Brien & Company, GreenWorks Realty, Penates Design, Shirey Contracting, and Pin Foundations, among others, also support the booth graphics.

We’ve doubled our membership since March, with more than 120 companies now participating in the program. About one-third is builders, with the rest associates and representatives from related industries, municipalities and other organizations. This first issue of our newsletter is designed to help prevent an overabundance of e-mails to our members; we will try to have all correspondence fit into this one, monthly online communication to you. If you have an item you’d like to include, or information you’d like to receive, please send an e-mail to builtgreen@mbaks.com, and we’ll make an effort to address your request.

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) has awarded the Built Green program with a $40,000 grant to help educate builders, consumers and homeowners on energy efficiency in residential design, construction, and home operations and maintenance. This award marks the largest such grant given by PSE to a green homebuilding program, and illustrates its broad commitment to helping our communities become resource-efficient. As part of our partnership, Built Green and PSE will provide a monthly column here with tips for how you can save energy use – in the workplace, during construction or at home! www.pse.com.

The King County Green Building Program provides assistance to builders and residents on a range of green building topics. Contact the program for resources on:

  • Construction waste management plans
  • Earning FREE recognition for reducing waste and recycling on the jobsite
  • Built Green(TM) and LEED(TM)

Single Family - Check out recently certified homes from Stafford Homes, Lozier Homes, Environmental Homes Northwest, Martha Rose Construction and Quadrant Homes. All have many Built Green 3-Star rated houses for sale.

Communities – Three entire communities have certified to Built Green this year. Quadrant Corporation certified Redmond Ridge and Snoqualmie Ridge, and Port Blakely Communities certified Issaquah Highlands, where most of the homes will also be certified to the Built Green program.

RemodelsSunshine Construction and Shirey Contracting have both certified Built Green remodels and additions recently.

Built Green Library - This is a reminder that you can access the Built Green Library in the MBA membership center on the first floor, near the front desk. You can ask the MBA receptionist to direct you to the shelves that contain more than 60 volumes of books on green building methods and practices.

Built Green Logo – if you need a logo to place on your promotional literature or website, send an e-mail to builtgreen@mbaks.com and we’ll send you the files. Just remember that the logo should not be used to endorse a particular product or company, but can be used to identify your company as a member of Built Green. Also, the logo should only be used to identify a home that has been certified as Built Green. Some of our builders do not certify every home, and therefore should designate only those that have been certified as Built Green.

Built Green Handbooks – If your company has not received one Built Green Handbook as part of your membership, send an e-mail to builtgreen@mbaks.com and specify which of the four handbooks you’d like to receive: single family new, multifamily, remodels, or communities.
