Sustainable/Green Building and Remodeling
A ten-week series of classes on green building and remodeling will be held every Thursday from March 1 through May 3 at the Land Trust Building on Vashon Island, from 7 p.m. to 9p.m. Please see the session descriptions below. March 1: What is Green?: Ecobroker Emma Amiad explains certification programs and how to get started with green building and remodeling.
March 8: "Extreme" green design: architect Martha Rose of Martha Rose Construction will discuss site issues, new building systems and green design.
March 15: Sustainable materials for your home: Pieter Sundgren from the Environmental Home Center will discuss and show recycled and sustainable products for your new or remodeled home.
March 22: Solar Power: Chris Herman of Winter Sun Designs will show us how to design for passive and active solar.
March 29: Recycle and Reuse: Patrick Burningham of Second Use Building Materials will share all the great choices out there for reusable and recycled building materials.
April 5: Landscaping for Wildlife and Beauty: Landscape designer Cameron Scott of Exteriorscapes, will present water conservation methods, plant selections and green design.
April 12 : Help From King County: Steve Foley of King County Dept. of Natural Resources and Greg Wessel of DDES will explain critical areas issues, incentive programs and low impact building programs.
April 19: Green Remodeling and Alternative Building Methods: Architect Sage K. Saskill of Living Shelter Design Group will discuss straw bale and other alternative building methods as well as green remodeling.
April 26: Where's The Money?: Eric Aasness of Countrywide Home Loans and speakers from PSE will discuss incentives from Puget Sound Energy and loan programs for green buildings and remodeling.
May 3: Where do we go from here?: Emma Amiad wraps up the series and will share further hints and resources.

Introduction to Built Green™
This free seminar provides an introduction to the Built Green program from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3 at the Master Builders Association Housing Center in Bellevue. Learn how to certify a project and use the checklist, how to join, how the program works and other resources. The seminar presents examples of projects and covers how to fill out the Built Green checklist. This orientation is required in order to certify homes as Built Green.
