Introduction to Built Green®
Tuesday, April 13, MBA Housing Center, Bellevue
The February session of of this seminar, previously scheduled for Feb. 9, has been changed to April 13 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the MBA Housing Center, 335 116th Ave. SE in Bellevue. This seminar provides an introduction to the Built Green program. Learn how to certify a project, use the checklist, join, navigate the program and take advantage of our other resources. The seminar presents examples of projects and covers how to fill out the Built Green checklist. This orientation has a cost of $30 and is required in order to certify homes as Built Green.

EPA-Certified Lead Renovator Training
March 23, 25 and 31, MBA Housing Center, Bellevue
This eight-hour course trains renovation, repair and painting contractors how to work safely in housing with lead-based paint and comply with EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule and HUD's Lead Safe Housing Rule. Topics include health concerns; regulations; before, during and after work procedures; recordkeeping; and training non-certified workers. This training is required for any contractor who is involved in any construction activity that now has or will have the potential to contact lead-based paint.

Rain Garden Workshop
March 18, Bothell and March 30, Seattle
Stewardship Partners presents two free rain garden workshops. Learn how to build your own rain garden to help soak up rainwater from downspouts, driveways, and sidewalks while protecting our local waterways. Advance registration required. Suggested donation is $10. At the workshop, you'll receive a free rain garden manual and additional materials. You can also start designing your own rain garden during the class! There will be opportunities to gain further hands-on experience by helping create rain gardens later in the summer.

Solar Home Design Class
March 20, Shoreline Community College campus, Shoreline
Basic home energy types, systems, characteristics and conservation. The emphasis is on practical design issues including system types, characteristics, sizing, heat storage, construction details, efficiencies and costs. Green-building materials and systems are discussed throughout. Chris Herman, CPBD, is the owner of Winter Sun Design, which was established in 1987. He is also the co-founder of the Northwest Eco-Building Guild and the Solar Washington Association.

Brownfields: Clean up from Start to Finish

From an introduction to Brownfields, all the way through to redevelopment, this course provides a complete overview of the Brownfields process. Participants will become versed in funding the assessment, cleanup and redevelopment of Brownfields, as well as the intricacies involved in managing a Federal grant. Those taking the class will be introduced to the basic concepts of Federal Brownfields law. This course will delve into effective assessment techniques, provide conceptual knowledge of current remediation practices and the look at different approaches necessary to tackle rural and urban Brownfields sites.

RainWise: Installing Rain Gardens and Cisterns

The City of Seattle will soon offer rebates to property owners to disconnect roof downspouts from the combined sewer system and to direct that runoff into cisterns or rain gardens. The rebates will be targeted to neighborhoods where downspout disconnection can help reduce combined sewer overflows during big rain storms. This class will prepare contractors and design/build professionals to work with owners to locate and size rain gardens or cisterns on their property, and to install those systems so they work well and meet the City's requirements for rebates on construction costs. These classes are required for contractors who want to participate in Seattle's new RainWise rebate program.
