Martha Rose Construction - Seattle, WA
Project: City Cabins

City Cabins is a Built Green 5-Star two-townhome project in north Queen Anne in Seattle. Built by Martha Rose construction, the homes were modeled to a 40 percent improvement over the current state energy code. A massive 75 percent of the site remains pervious, and each home as a 300-gallon collection tank for rainwater. The landscaping features natives, edibles and drought tolerant species, and juniper timbers were used for outdoor landscaping. To ensure high quality indoor air, a heat recovery ventilator with a HEPA filter was installed, and low toxic finishes and wood products were used throughout. The homes achieved a recycling rate of over 90 percent through separation of the waste types on the project site. A large amount, about 3,000 to 4,000 board feet, of lumber was provided through repurposing trees from the site, and 7,000-board-feet of decking was re-used. The project also features recycled-content hard-surface tile and salvaged wood flooring from Oregon.
