There's an expression that says you should enjoy the small things in life.

Going outside and enjoying a walk on a sunny day, for example. Or getting to work or school and back without assistance or inconvenience. For too many, these tasks are burdensome and dangerous. For a few, getting safely to and from their homes has become downright impossible.

Single family permits in the Seattle metro area were down 14% and multifamily permits down 6% through the end of May, compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, the supply of homes for sale continues to be very low—just 1.77 months in King County and 1.49 months in Snohomish County during June. These are just some of the housing statistics you’ll find reported on in the latest Builders Bulletin.

In the Seattle Metro Area, the building permit data for the year-to-date period ending on August 31, 2023, paints a distinctive picture of the region's construction activity. There were 4,021 single-family permits issued during this time, reflecting a substantial 28% decrease compared to the same period in 2022. Similarly, the multifamily segment also saw a noteworthy decline, with 7,851 permits issued, indicating a substantial 46% decrease from the prior year. These statistics show a notable slowdown in both single-family and multifamily construction projects.
